Lamar and Shirley celebrated 50 years of marriage on September 7, 2008.
They have 3 children, Alan Lamar Hunt, retired from the Navy, living in Florida, Mark David Hunt, retired from the Army, and living with his family in Enterprise, Alabama; and Lisa Keating, who lives with her husband, Bruce, in Orlando, Florida. The Hunts also have five grandchildren.
Lamar is an ordained minister of the Central Texas
Conference of the United Methodist Church. He served two congregations
in the Assemblies of God prior to entering active duty as an Army
Chaplain. Since retirement he served a four year co-pastorate in the
Community Church of Marion Oaks (UCC), near Ocala, Florida.
Lamar writes music and books. His Christmas Cantata,
The Jesus Star, has been performed in military chapels and civilian
churches. He is finishing an Easter Cantata, The Passion of Jesus.
One of his Country songs won first place in 2010 in the Traditional
Country Music Cooperation's songwriting contest.
He has published Hello God, A Daily Call to Faith and Worship, a book of daily devotions; Touching the Hand of Jesus, a largely autobiographical work that includes his service in combat in Vietnam, and Clay Jars and Christians, a book of sermon manuscripts on CD.
Shirley is an accomplished soloist who has performed in several
states and countries. She and Lamar have recorded a music CD,
Lamar and Shirley Sing.
