the program at the Hunts' 50th Wedding Anniversary
celebration.
Lamar and Shirley recently ministered at the Shady Grove United
Methodist Church in Irmo, SC. Lamar preached about "Sparrows and
Angels" and Shirley sang The Love of God. Their good
friends, Don and Mae Keating, are members there.
Lamar spoke at the first annual Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans
ceremony at the Ocala Veterans Park on March 30, 2011. Congress
recently passed a resolution making March 30 the official day for this
theme.
Lamar is president of the local chapter of the Military Chaplains
Association. The Hunts hosted the group at a cookout in June of
2011. This group provides counseling to Operation Shoe Box which
is headquartered nearby. The chaplains also participate in the
quarterly Memorial Ceremonies at the Veterans Park in Ocala. Lamar
started the ceremonies and hosted the first 10. The names of over
6,000 deceased veterans have been read against a drum roll and with a
bell sounded after each name.
Lamar is serving on the committee to host the semiannual US Army
Chaplain/Chaplain Assistant reunion in May, 2012 in Tampa, Florida.
